SAAM Towage, el mayor operador de remolcadores de América anunció la incorporación de dos unidades de alta tecnología: el SAAM Petrel y el SAAM Charrán. Estas embarcaciones, diseñadas por Robert Allan Ltd. y construidas en el astillero Sanmar (Turquía), llevan nombres de aves marinas nativas, respetando una tradición que SAAM mantiene desde hace más de 60 años. La iniciativa forma parte del plan de inversiones de la compañía para optimizar su capacidad operativa y presencia estratégica en Chile y Perú, explicó Cristián Cifuentes, country manager para ambos países.
Tecnología, sostenibilidad y potencia
El SAAM Petrel, equipado con tecnología IMO Tier III, será el primer remolcador con sistema de reducción de emisiones NOx en la flota chilena y operará en el Puerto de Arica. El SAAM Charrán, ya operativo en el Puerto del Callao, destaca por su versatilidad y potencia. Ambos están certificados con el estándar internacional FiFi 1 de lucha contra incendios y prestarán servicios clave en maniobras portuarias complejas como atraques y desatraques. La edad promedio de la flota regional de SAAM alcanza los 13 años, con una capacidad de tracción (bollard pull) de 65 toneladas.
Características técnicas destacadas
Cada remolcador mide 24,4 metros de eslora y 12 metros de manga, con una tracción de 80 toneladas y velocidad máxima de 13 nudos. Sus motores Caterpillar de 2.350 kW proporcionan un rendimiento óptimo, incluso en puertos con espacio restringido. Basados en el diseño Rampart 2500SX MKII, son ideales para asistir grandes embarcaciones, reforzando la capacidad operativa en terminales donde el tráfico marítimo exige precisión, potencia y bajas emisiones.
